Like in my previous post about Homeland security, China also has a problem with social media. The country wants to fine social media for not following their rules. If you think about it, this isn’t social media’s problem. The platforms can do everything in their power to block China’s citizens from going on the blocked sites, but people will always find a way to get on them. It also doesn’t help that there isn’t a way to enforce the people to not go on the sites. This is another thing that I’m not thrilled about. Not only is Homeland security watching people on social media, but China is banning certain sites. What if countries decide to get rid of social media all together? I know I don’t want that.

Homeland Security On Social Media
Homeland security decided to do social media screenings on immigrants recently, and I’m not too thrilled about it. The reason behind it is to find any sort of hint of violence from those being screened. From my understanding of immigration, most of these people come to our country to be successful. They don’t walk into our land with causing a crime as their first objective. They think about what they can do to make their lives better and about how they can make the lives of their children better. They do not go on social media sites telling the world who they’ll attack first. These social media screenings will just cause a lot of people to make sure they give out as little information as possible about them on things like Instagram and Facebook. This can also hurt business because they won’t be able to find their target audience and what they like.

Social Media Threat Awareness
Due to a school threat from an expelled student, parents were so concerned that they let their children stay home for the day they thought would be most dangerous. To ensure safety of students at all times, the school placed more security patrols even if the threat had subsided. It has been a while since I heard of a school doing something so logical. Not only does this ease the anxiety and worry of the students but also the school staff and parents. This school, Palisades Charter High School, has successfully resolved a school-wide panic. This is the first time I’ve ever heard of a school doing something similar. The threat was found through social media, which also proves how important it can be. It’s thanks to social media that schools are able to to be alerted of dangers before it happens.
Social media on natural disasters
We have all heard about the hurricanes and natural disasters going on and how a lot of people lost connection with others. This is when things like social media platforms can really make a difference. With power lines down it can be really hard to tell friends and family everything’s ok, unless you have mobile data and social media. The platforms provide free messaging and calling as long as you’re connected to the internet. It’s thanks to this that everyone can stay in contact with major situations like these. This is also a good time for companies to start donating and getting recognized for the things they do.

Celebrity Doctors
I have heard of a lot if ‘celebrity doctors’ from t.v. and social media, but I don't usually take them seriously unless I know they can be trusted. A lot of these kind of doctors will use social media to reach out to not only an audience of just his or her city but also from their country or even other countries. By doing so, they can get a large following. The bad thing about this is that it can cause a panic if the information being said is not interpreted correctly. This is just one of the many dangers that can happen when people go on social media and don't understand what they're seeing.

Body Shaming Is Not In My Vocabulary
Danica Patrick is a female NASCAR racer who has been very successful for quite sometime now. During her car racing career, she also has published books for fitness along with meal plans. What I believe to be really great about her plans and fitness work outs is that Patrick herself has tested all of them so she knows they work. Another great thing she does is that she posts on Instagram the difference between an edited picture of someone's progress and one that is not edited. This lets a lot of people know that their bodies are not ugly and the people who seems perfect actually looks just like you. Danica Patrick is capable of letting all these people know that they are not abnormal through Instagram. It's through Instagram that people are able to feel like they are fine just the way they are and that they're not doing anything wrong, they're only seeing wrong.
