Most used social media for teens

I really like this article. I was super interested in all the info it gave on teenagers and what their most used platform was. It's no surprise to me that FaceBook was not one of the top choices for most used. The one thing I was surprised with was the placement of Instagram and Snapchat. After Snapchat updated, a lot of people weren't as active on it as they were before the update. Because of that, I expected Snapchat to not have a high number as it did in the 'most used' section of the survey. I guess they made a comeback.

Stories on social media (stories/posts)

I'm not gonna lie, I agree with the article that stories are starting to take over social media and replace regular posts. I don't post too often, but I do occasionally visit the apps themselves. When I scroll through, I don't see a whole lot of interesting posts. They're very repetitive when I look at people's profiles, but then I see their stories. The stories that I see tend to be more interesting and attractive than the person's actual post, it kind of annoys me. I really do feel like these new 'stories' can take attention away from actual posts, I think it should change.

Nuns on social media

I don't know if it is a good idea to have nuns on social media, only because there can be a lot of violence on there and mad people. But then again, maybe that's what social media needs. Maybe they need the presence of nuns to remember to be respectful. I mean I know I wouldn't talk to nuns like that, I would feel so disgusted with myself. It just seems too rude to me, I can't see myself doing that. I just hope no one is rude to them, they don't deserve that, I don't think they should be exposed to that.

Social media challenges now more dangerous

I do not understand the whole point of these weird challenges. Do they know that what they are doing is dangerous? And can cause lifelong injuries? I mean, I would not do that because it sounds painful, excruciatingly painful. It just sounds so stupid to me. It concerns me how these kids (or teens, whoever they are) are able to come up with these kinds of things. All I'm saying is parents should be more knowledgeable and aware of what their kids are doing because it is getting way out of hand and way out of control. These are kids we're talking about.

Snapchat robbery

I mean I guess it's a smart way to a rob someone through Snapchat, but is it really necessary? It seems a bit excessive to me. Yea, you gotta do what you gotta do, but through Snapchat? Can't you save chats in it? Unless the guy didn't want anyone to find out. Now that I think about it, why a Motel 6? Why not a park or somewhere else? That in itself seems a little sketchy to me. All I'm saying is there might be more than one reason she robbed him. Then again I'm not an investigator or lawyer.

Gangs and Social Media

I do not understand why people continue to blame social media for society's problems. Instead of pointing the finger, how about we think about how the situation came to be in the first place. When on Instagram, as you start to like certain things more and more, that same type of content will reappear on your feed. If the person on the app likes that content, they have made the decision to continue to see that. So if someone continued to like posts with gang-related content, they have made the decision to have those ideas in their heads every time they open Instagram. Getting rid of social media will not get rid of gangs, I say that because it sounds like people are saying the solution to ending gangs is an end to social media. That is not it.

China banning Peppa Pig

Talk about taking control, I have to applaud China for banning those characters. Not because I do not like them (I have nothing against Winnie the Pooh or Peppa Pig) but because they wanted something done so they did it. China's government did not approve nor appreciate what was being done with the cartoons so they banned both. I have heard of politicians complain about how people use social media but they do not do anything about it. Unlike those people, Chinese officials did what they thought they should. I just think it was awesome how they took actions with they thought they should change.

CEO makes good call on rapid response

I still can not believe that people would want to shoot schools so much. I mean I understand that they are going through pain, but leave other kids out of it. That being said, I can understand the mother's anger in the amount she had to pay. I am glad she expected to pay quite a bit of money and not assume they would give her a free flight. I am also happy to read about the founder/CEO giving the mother her money back entirely, as well as giving her an additional donation of $18,000 to go towards funds for her son. It makes me continue to believe that there are still compassionate people in this world.

Price for personal Social Media info

I can't say that these people, whom are selling their own private information from social media, are crazy because I myself would be willing to sell my information. Except not for just a pretty penny, I would be willing to sell mine for all the diamonds in the world. I doubt someone would be willing to match that price, but that's the only number for my information. If i'm going to sell myself, it won't be for a measly couple grand. I may not be worth it but I'm not going to sell myself away knowing I can get more.

Here's the price tag Americans would put on their social media data

Racially Offensive Promposal

This really irritates me. It's not funny, appropriate, cool, and sends the wrong message. It's insanely stereotypical, not all African-Americans (or Blacks, I do not wish to offend anyone) pick cotton. My grandmother used to pick cotton and she was Hispanic, there's no need for the stereotypes. I don't care if you think it's funny or your friends think it's funny, doesn't matter. It's wrong. I understand if you were raised to think like that, but then again some people were raised to think of themselves as inferior to others. Either way it's wrong. Racism is learned. People shouldn't feel that way about themselves.

New BuzzFeed series

I don't know how I feel about BuzzFeed's new "Future History:1968" series. I was taught that 1968 was a very hectic and troublesome year. That being the case, I think this series will open up a lot of debates and will talk about things that are very controversial. I just think BuzzFeed should be very careful about what they say and do. Some people might get offended or start other drama that is unnecessary and inappropriate. Not to mention the journalists are Russian, and last time I checked, not a whole lot of people like Russians in the U.S.

Quitting Social Media

I am a little surprised with the numbers that this article presents. Then again I am really not sure what to expect. I would say it can be pretty difficult to give up social media entirely. I take break sometimes, but I myself would be unsure about quitting social media forever. I can be in contact with more people on social media than through text/call alone, so that would the the main reason I am iffy about quitting. But, like always, that's just me. I don't know how other people think about social media, most likely different from me.

Lee County School Response

After reading the article, I was very content with the superintendent's choice of actions and words. He made sure to tell all parents and families of students attending threatened school what was going on without stating major specifics, he also made aware that there would be law enforcement on campus for extra measure. I think that was a great call, whether something was going to happen or not. I especially appreciated his statement on the seriousness of the issue and how publicly posted threats are not a joke and should never be overlooked. I think this was dealt with very well and should be an example of what should be done when these things happen.

Facebook researching social media and election relationships

I feel like Facebook has always been open and up-front about the election interference situation. I do not think I have ever read about them being difficult or trying to go around something. They have always cooperated and tried their best not to be biased. Now they are putting together a research team, not just a regular team, to improve their policies regarding elections. They are also trying to make it an unbiased team with no over-ruling ethnicity. Other than trying to fix their mistakes, Facebook acknowledged them as well. I would say Facebook is doing something right compared to others.

Ed Westwick and sexual assault

I thought the whole sexual assault thing was kept under the radar and not in the news anymore? As someone who's experienced a similar situation, I would rather have the problem be dealt with quietly. As long as the entire process stays within the law everything should be fine. I have been told that if something like this is televised, there's a chance it will happen again and again until it is no longer televised. I would [refer it to not be televised, if I really wanted to know about it I would look it up online to find out for myself.

More regulations on social media

There are still on going meetings about social media and what exactly they should be regulating on each of their platforms. I just hope the people asking them to do these things know that what they're asking is a very hard task to do. I'm just thinking out loud here, but if people want social media to be regulated, there'll be a lot more job openings of people going on the internet and looking for accounts that are not trustworthy. There's more than 320 million people living in the US alone, social media covers the entire world. Well like a whole lot of things, there's always something that can be done.

The younger she is on Snapchat, the more unhappy she is

I can see this being true, but I don't think children should be exposed to social media at that age. I can understand having a cellphone for contacting family, but not social media. Regardless of what their reason would be, I don't think they should be on social media at that age. I am no exception, I don't remember if I was on social media that young, I don't think so. I hope not. If there's one thing I'm curious to see, it would be the same survey taken on a larger scale, not just the UK. I'm not saying the study could have been done better, I'm just really interested in seeing what it would look like on a larger scale if that was just in the UK.

Present day best social media stock

I'm not surprised that the stocks for both Facebook and Snapchat went down, I kind of saw that coming. With Snapchat's new update, a lot of people decided not to use the app. Facebook also has some user problems with fake news being spread and just being out dated (in some people's opinions). What I find funny about this is what the last paragraph talks about. There have been a lot of speculation with the freedom given to people on social media, except when there are restrictions finally being applied people start to become less interested in the platform. That, to me, is very interesting.

The best social media stock by far this year is not Facebook or Snap — it's Twitter

Windsor High School social media threat

I still don't understand why the rate of these shootings and threats keeps increasing. It makes me sad thinking about all of it, why would ALL these kids, students, people, why would they choose to do this? I mean from what I've heard the motives have been anger. I can't imagine what would happen if anyone I cared about would be placed in those kind of situations. I don't want to, I don't want them to be in that situation. I don't like thinking about these things because I get scared and anxious for others. What if they don't make it? I just really hope whatever this is will die down soon.

Russians take personal information

I did not know this was a thing. It actually concerns me that this happened. I am also concerned about why the Russians decided to target that specific type of audience. This article makes me think about a lot of things, like when Trump swore there was no Russian meddling with the election. This makes me question him even more now. How can I be certain he tells the truth? I mean I can't do anything about it but it makes him look bad. I mean Facebook tried to help with that tool, A for effort in my book at least.

Cryptocurrencies no longer in China

I don't know exactly how many cryptocurrencies there are in the stock market nor just how popular it has become, but I do know its popularity increased majorly over the past few months. I know someone who has invested in stocks for one and I've heard about the troubles with it. I do feel like that type of currency will go down just as fast as it went up, and will be an even riskier stock type to be involved in than others. Then again, I'm not an expert in the stock market. Maybe I'll get into it later in life.

Social media and being 'social'

People don't believe me when I tell them that social media can actually help someone become more social, here's an article that gives evidence it does. If a person is very open to be begin with, social media is a perfect for them to make more friends and laugh about funny videos online. I know it makes me more social because it allows me to have conversations with people I didn't know went to the same school as me. I think social media can help make better relationships with people from resolving issues to breaking the ice to finding old friends.

John Legend reacts to dad shaming

I love couples who defend each other, especially when they're roasting someone. John Legend posted a picture of him carrying his daughter and someone commented "So tired of seeing them carrying her. She needs no legs then." I laughed so hard while reading this article. I don't know who that person was but they either don't have kids or their kids must be disciplined like crazy, or that person was probably a parent who pushes their kids to do things on their own. Either way I don't think that was an appropriate comment to make. If it bothers you so much unfollow him. Commenting about it won't stop Legend from doing it.

Human trafficking and religion rumor

Well, I'm kind of not surprised there was a rumor tying human trafficking with religion. I'm glad there was some responsibility in the students/people who reported and read about the situation. They read more about the religion and looked for any further evidence before making any assumptions and some of them even told authorities before it became too out of hand with violence. Of course there were threats being made, but at least no gun involvement that has unfortunately become the norm to deal with problems. On a better note, this problem was just a social media post gone viral.

Social media and Grades don't go together

The debate around the effects of social media on a student's grades has been discussed for many years. This is another article I found that I believe reveals the truth and not the stereotypical views of social media. I know a lot of people who are active on social media but still care about their grades and have above average grades. There aren't THAT many kids who don't care about there grades like I have heard about from the past, so it confused me to hear people generalize the relationship between social media and grades. I think people should have a little bit more faith in the responsibility students and their homework.

Florida Shooting

I don't know what to say about the entire situation, but I did hear about the FBI being warned of this in the past. I can't really blame the FBI for overlooking it either. As unfortunate as it is, teenagers these days joke, sometimes half serious, about shooting up a or their school. I don't see how that's cool, how it's a fad, or why it's even acceptable. I mean I guess more people will like you if you tell them you're going to shoot up the school. Eventually people find out how they really are and how they can be. It’s better off not joking with things so serious like this situation.

Snapchat Update

I can see all the anger and disapproval of the Snapchat update, I was a little upset too. After a while I got used to it though. Some people find it ugly, confusing, weird, even too random. I think that's more of personal preference on the app itself. I'm kind of surprised by the number of people who signed against the update. Is it really that bad that one million people had to sign a petition about it? There's also been reports of a crash going on with Snapchat, that hasn't happened to me so far. I don't see why it's such a big deal.

False Media About School Threat

I don't understand why students, children teens and young adults, decide to joke about serious matters. Especially when people start taking it seriously and authorities become involved. I guess they do it to be cool but I don't see that as being cool, more like immature and very foolish. It's things like this that make me worry about the current and next generations and what kind of decisions they will make. Very crucial decisions. Decisions that can hurt people if made wrong. I just hope that there will be the same amount of good decisions as there are bad ones.

#MeTooFGM Campaign

I was so upset while reading this article, but happy too. There is more than one reason why I was happy. One: the article was truthful to the FGM procedure (I don't wish to explain it). Two: people are standing up against it with their hashtag #MeTooFGM. There are also more reasons that one as to why I am upset. I am upset with myself for not knowing about it and the fact that this is an actual thing. No, I can not change tradition and yes that is disrespectful. There are many things I can not change but this will be added to my list of things I can only wish to change.

Kids On Kid Friendly Messenger

I’m starting to find more and more articles talking about the one thing no other article is: the problems with social media. I was very happy reading the comments and statements being made by the people interviewed. There are some very true points being made here like kids getting bullied by not having social media and “Waiting to 8th” (waiting until 8th grade). Both I can agree with but there are still some very good arguments opposing children on social media such as them not being old enough or ready to experience what's on the internet. I think this should continue to be talked about and not decided.

No More Trust In Social Media?

It’s very concerning how people are losing trust in social media.  The point of social media, definition pretty much, is the sharing of information and communicating with other people through websites and/or applications. That being said, people are becoming less trustworthy towards other people. I know we're human and we all make mistakes but things are getting out of hand, from this new thing called 'fake news' to these shootings and that stupid tide pod challenge. It all reminds me of those stories of how gods punished man kind for their COUNTLESS mistakes. What if those were stories of mother nature creating balance? Kind of how when prey become scarce in the animal kingdom so do the predators that feed on it. What if things like the black plague were just larger scales of that? Then again that's me becoming a theorist or conspiracy person and I don't think I'm in any position to do so. I'm just typing my thoughts.

Recording Instead Of Dialing

This is one problem that I wish didn't exist, I know I can't change anything but it's still unfortunate. Very unfortunate. It makes me think what really goes on in people's heads. I just don't understand why it's even a thing to just sit there and record people getting beat up. I can understand one, two people, but not EVERYONE. It's just really hard for me to even see that happening, to just let someone get killed. Is that all people think about? To get views from a video you took of a guy being murdered? I myself haven't even been on social media for weeks let alone thought about how many likes I get. If that's how you want to be known for go for it, it's not my reputation. I'm not saying my reputation is perfect (I probably don't even have one) I'm just saying think about what it is you're doing. Once on the internet it's hard to get off.

Cinemas And Social Media

Going back to what I said in the previous post about pros and cons, the subject of this article is not exempt from them. It is very true that movies tend to tell tall tales about the bad things about social media that are also true themselves so I agree with that statement. It is a good thing that movies are letting the public know about things such as these because it can also tie into other problems like self-esteem issues. So in that sense it is a very good thing about putting the problems into light. The bad thing is exactly that though: cinemas focus only on the bad. This mean people don't see the good things of social media like people being able to reach out when there are no other forms of communication available. That's just one pro, there are others like finding friends and having good relationships with them, share funny videos with those friends and/ or other friends, find out you really like a certain game show, the pros are endless just as the cons are. It's because of things like this that cause parent to ban their kids from social media and give platforms a bad rep. That's my only issue with it.

Social Media is Social Media

This is one of the first articles I have read that does not talk about putting some sort of stop or limit to social media. It is one of the first I've read that tells people to just accept the fact that social media will not leave. It's true, it's very true, it won't leave any time soon. Everyone's heard the phrase "once on the internet it's there forever," social media is no exception to that. Instead of making it forbidden for your kids to go on social media (which will make them want one more most likely) tell them the dangers as well as the positives. When the hurricanes hit social media was the only way to find out if people were ok to some, social media can also be a bad influence. Just like a lot of things in life, it has pros and cons.

Children must learn to handle social media pressures
